In a continent with more than its fair share of power supply problems coupled with enviable amounts of sunshine, solar solutions to the problem have to be a no brainer. It is also perhaps inevitable that with name like Novasol Africa, and a business focussed on sourcing and logistical support into some of the continent’s more remote regions, we share our procurement knowledge and experience of solar products. To this end we have selected a few brands covering a range of offerings and pricing points that we think will be of interest to both the domestic and industrial/commercial environments. These will be the focus of our up-coming newsletters and website featured products, starting this month with some fantastic deals on Inverters and solar power solutions.

Great products and service on all solar solutions

Novasol Africa currently enjoys very strong relationships with some of South Africa’s biggest manufacturers and importers of backup and alternate power solutions. This means that we have negotiated unbelievable prices and are in turn able to pass this on to our clients.

Choosing your solar solution

Standalone

Solar power solutioinsA stand alone solar system is usually used in remote areas where there is little or no grid power. The solar system functions independently of the any power grid and therefore can provide clean electricity where ever you are.

As a rough cost guideline these systems generally start at R50 000 and can be upgraded with ease.

Grid Tie

0924ho-oh-solarGrid tie systems generally have only one function which is to feed all electricity generated through the mains and into the grid. This in turn offsets the power that you would usually consume from your power utility.

These systems are usually cheaper than stand alone and grid interactive systems because there are no batteries and related parts involved.

Grid Interactive

P1010004s.jpg.opt379x284o0,0s379x284Grid interactive systems offer the best of both the off grid and grid tie systems. They have the ability to feed back into the grid during low power usage periods. These systems also have the ability to charge batteries and provide backup power.

These systems generally start at around R50 000 and can be expanded as and when required.

We can help you with the following

You should know the following in order to get the correct system for your needs

  1. The peak KW (power consumption) and the total KW/hr you expect to use per day.
  2. Type of system
  3. You must decide what DC voltage and calculate what size batteries you will need (if you were using a grid-tied system you would not need batteries). Battery voltage is difficult to change after your system is built, so choose carefully at the start.
  4. Type and number of batteries required – car batteries are not designed for solar use. This is not needed for Grid tie systems
  5. Type and size of the inverter and other components required
